Nicola Persico is a fetal surgeon and Director of the Departmental Unit of Prenatal Diagnosis and Fetal Surgery at the Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda – Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico in Milan, as well as Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Milan.
After graduating with honors in Medicine and completing his specialization at the University of Bologna, followed by a PhD in Obstetric and Gynecological Sciences at the University of Parma, he trained at King’s College Hospital in London, where he refined his expertise in prenatal diagnosis and fetal surgery.
His clinical and research activity focuses on the diagnosis and intrauterine treatment of fetal and placental disorders. He works closely with the teams led by Dr. Bottani and Dr. Dario Brunetti on a pioneering study that led to the development of the first minimally invasive fetal gene therapy technique in utero in Europe. This groundbreaking research marks a turning point in fetal medicine, opening the door to new prenatal treatment options for severe genetic diseases and neurodevelopmental disorders, enabling therapeutic intervention already during gestation.
