Chiara received her BSc in Biosciences and Biotechnology from the University of Camerino in 2020. She then completed an MSc in Molecular and Medical Biotechnology at the University of Verona in 2022, conducting her thesis under the supervision of Dr. Emanuela Bottani. Her research focused on T3-mediated transcriptional and metabolic regulation during the development of murine cerebral organoids.

Chiara joined the Bottani Lab as a Research Fellow in November 2022, focusing on the investigation of potential drug treatments for various mitochondrial diseases, particularly maternally inherited Leigh syndrome (MILS), using patient-derived iPSC models differentiated into neuroprogenitor cells (NPCs). During her time in the Bottani Lab, she developed a strong interest and enthusiasm for genetic diseases and contributed to several research activities, including a collaborative study on in utero gene therapy for genetic disorders.

Since February 2025, Chiara has been a Senior Research Fellow at the Unit of Medical Genetics and Neurogenetics, Neurological Institute Carlo Besta in Milan, under the supervision of Dr. Valeria Tiranti. Her current research focuses on identifying therapeutic strategies for Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON), using in vitro models such as iPSC-derived NPCs and neurons. She also explores mitochondrial transplantation via extracellular vesicles (EVs).

We are enthusiastic about Chiara’s new professional journey and sincerely wish her all the best in her research and future endeavours.
