Biosketch

Lucia Biasutto obtained her degree in Industrial Biotechnology (cum laude) from the University of Padova in 2005 and her Ph.D. in Cellular Biology from the same university in 2009, within the Graduate School of Biosciences, Departments of Biomedical and Chemical Sciences. Following her degree, she carried out post-doctoral research at the Department of Biomedical Sciences (2009–2010) and at the CNR Institute of Neuroscience (2011–2012), focusing on the pharmacological characterization of natural compounds and their derivatives.

Her international research experience includes work at the Centre of Applied Proteomics and Molecular Medicine, George Mason University (USA); the Department of Pharmaceutical Technologies, University of Innsbruck (Austria); and the Laboratory of Mass Spectrometry, ETH Zurich (Switzerland).

Since 2012, she has been a researcher at the CNR Neuroscience Institute in Padua. Her research lies at the interface between chemistry and biology, with a focus on the pharmacological potential of natural compounds and the development of derivatives to improve their bioavailability and therapeutic efficacy. Among the compounds under study are pterostilbene and its derivatives, investigated for their ability to counteract obesity and cognitive decline, and synthetic derivatives of psoralen, explored as potential anti-tumor agents targeting ion-conducting channels of the mitochondrial inner membrane.

Her technical expertise includes in vitro stability studies, UHPLC-UV, HPLC-UV, and LC-MS analyses, extraction and quantification of analytes from biological samples, ADME studies, and pharmacological assays in vitro and in vivo.
