Valeria Roxana Balmaceda Valdez, Ph.D.
Biosketch
Dr. Valeria Balmaceda is a molecular biologist with extensive international training and solid expertise in the field of mitochondrial diseases. She graduated in 2007 from the Universidad Nacional de San Luis (Argentina), later joining Florida International University (USA) as a visiting researcher, and in 2014 earned her PhD in Neuroscience from the Universidad Miguel Hernández in Elche (Spain).
Over the past years, she has focused her research on mitochondrial disorders, first as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Padua (Italy), where she identified tissue-specific metabolic features crucial to understanding organ vulnerability in these pathologies. She also developed innovative gene therapy and pharmacological protocols aimed at restoring mitochondrial balance. Her strong interest in both primary and secondary mitochondrial dysfunction has led her to actively collaborate with several international research groups.
Currently, she is a senior researcher in Dr. Emanuela Bottani’s group, where she studies mitochondrial disorders affecting neuronal development.
Her outstanding scientific expertise, together with her passion and dedication, make her an invaluable asset to our team. We are truly delighted to have her with us.
