Noemi Cannizzaro, M.Sc.
Biosketch
Noemi earned her Master’s degree cum laude in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Bologna in 2018. She conducted her Master’s thesis at the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) in Trieste, where she investigated the molecular mechanisms guiding neural stem cells to commit to specific fates during cerebral cortex development. Following this, she worked at the University of Padua on Huntington’s disease, gaining experience in neurodegenerative disorders, before moving to the University of California, Davis. There, she explored how maternal diet influences offspring brain development, further broadening her expertise in neurodevelopmental biology.
In 2025, Noemi joined the Dr. Bottani Lab as a research fellow and then as a PhD student, where she is developing innovative therapeutic strategies for mitochondrial diseases affecting the nervous system during early development. Her multidisciplinary background—spanning stem cell biology, neurodevelopment, and disease modelling—reflects a deep scientific curiosity and a commitment to translational research.
Outside the lab, Noemi enjoys walking in nature, experimenting with nail art, and baking delicious treats, some of which occasionally make their way to her colleagues.
